LNA Concerned Over GNA Military Movements West of Sirte

On Sunday, the Libyan National Army (LNA) said in a statement that it is fully committed to the ceasefire agreement signed in Geneva by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

The statement said that the General Command of the LNA expressed concerns about the increasing mobilisation of “militias affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli and Misrata.” It also showed concern regarding “the transfer of militias, weapons, and military equipment towards the front lines of Sirte and Al-Jufra.”

The statement noted, “In response, we have issued instructions and orders to all units to be on high alert, and not to be drawn into provocations that could lead to an escalation of the military situation.”

The Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the LNA, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, confirmed in an interview with “Sky News Arabia” that Turkey is still trying to obstruct the Libyan dialogue “through military intervention and the sending of mercenaries.” He added that the LNA has monitored the arrival of a new batch of mercenaries, despite the overall numbers of foreign fighters in Libya decreasing.

“The Libyans cannot accept the staying of mercenaries, regardless of their numbers, because this affects our sovereignty and obstructs what was agreed upon at dialogues,” Al-Mahjoub said.
