During a meeting yesterday in Moscow, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Ahmed Maitig, stated that he agreed with the Russian Minister of Trade and Industry, Denis Manturov, on reactivating agreements concluded since 2008.

“We have agreed on reactivating a number of stalled and concluded agreements between the two countries since 2008 in the fields of electricity, energy, health and infrastructure,” Maitig tweeted on Friday.

“We also discussed ways to enhance trade and economic exchange in a way that serves the interests of the Libyan and Russian peoples, and develop bilateral relations,” he added.

Maitig arrived in Moscow on Thursday for a state visit. According to the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, “on January 29, in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, will meet with the deputy PM of the Government of National Accord of Libya Ahmed Maiteeq.”

The meeting is expected to focus on Libyan peace efforts and Libyan-Russian cooperation, Zakharova added.
