On Saturday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) called for the immediate and unconditional release of Widad Al Shergi.

In a tweet, UNSMIL said that it “is deeply concerned for the safety of Widad Al Shergi, a young Libyan woman who was arbitrarily detained in front of Zawiyah court, west of Tripoli, on the 31st January, allegedly by an armed group. Her family has had no contact with her since the 2nd February.”

The statement added that, “the Mission calls for her immediate and unconditional release. This incident blatantly undermines the rule of law and human rights in Libya.”

The Mission also called for a full investigation by the General Prosecutor and for all perpetrators to be brought to justice.
