On Wednesday, Head of Libya’s Presidential Council (PC), Mohamed Al-Mnifi, and his deputy, Mousa Al-Koni attended the first regular meeting of the Government of the National Unity (GNU) at the Presidency Office in Tripoli.
The meeting was chaired by the GNU’s Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.

In a statement, the PC’s media office said that Al-Mnifi stressed the need to unify all Libyan institutions, overcome the issues facing the Libyan people, and exert the utmost effort to improve their living conditions.

Al-Mnifi’s keenness to attend the cabinet’s first regular meeting aims to “support the GNU in fulfilling its duties to serve the interests of the Libya people.”

On Tuesday, Al-Mnifi headed a high-level delegation to Paris, where he held talks with French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The first official visit by Al-Mnifi came in response to an invitation from the French President, in light of the two sides’ keenness to develop and enhance the strategic relations between Libya and France.

The GNU was elected through a UN-supported process, is the latest internationally-backed bid to end a decade of chaos in the oil-rich country and unite the rival administrations.
