Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio said that the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba is working to unify Libya. He added that Italy is working with France and Europe to help facilitate this process.

In a press interview, Di Maio noted that pressure from the US to expel foreign mercenaries from Libya would be central. “I will talk about this with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush, who will be in Rome on April 22,” according to the Italian news agency, Nova.

The Italian FM discussed the opening date of the Italian Consulate in Benghazi, saying, “very soon.… I think that by the first of June we will appoint the Consul.”

Regarding the possibility of cancelling the agreements between Tripoli and Ankara regarding the demarcation of the maritime borders, Di Maio said that this is a bilateral agreement between the two countries, and it is up to the Libyans to discuss this matter.
