On Wednesday, Libya reported no new deaths from COVID-19 for the first time in months, according to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

In its daily briefing, the NCDC reported that 338 new cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 182,350, of which 169,070 people have successfully recovered.

The center also reported that total fatalities remained at 3,079.

The healthcare sector in Libya has been greatly affected by the weak security situation, financial corruption, the armed and political conflicts in the country, in addition to increasing foreign interference.

Last week, the Director of the NCDC, Dr. Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar; said that about 100,000 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country. He added that the national vaccination campaign is proceeding at an excellent pace across all municipalities.

He explained that the campaign began with the arrival of 200,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, followed by 75,000 of the British AstraZeneca vaccine, and then 150,000 of the Chinese Sinovac.
