Cairo and Libya agreed to form a joint committee to lay down the rules governing the return of Egyptian workers to the local Libyan market, said Hamdi Imam, the Head of the Egyptian Labor Recruitment Division.
Imam explained that the Egyptian-Libyan agreement was made through the visit of the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mustafa Madbouly, to Libya, during which he met his Libyan counterpart, Abdelhamid Dbaiba in April.
He told Sky News Arabia that the committee, which is expected to be formed during the next few days, includes representatives from the Ministries of Labor, Health, Interior and Foreign Affairs from the two countries. “Health and security controls will be put in place to facilitate the easy entry of Egyptian workers into Libya,” he added.
“Egypt has thousands of professional workers in all fields. They will transfer their practical and technical expertise and work inside Libya as soon as the agreement between Egypt and Libya is activated.”
He expected that the Libyan market would need about 2 million Egyptian workers during the next 3 years. According to the latest unofficial statistics, the number of Egyptian workers in Libya ranges from 800,000 to 1 million workers.
