The Libyan judo champion, Ali Al-Nayli, said he is preparing to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will be held from 23 July to 8 August.

In exclusive statements to “218 News”, Al-Nayli said that his candidacy for the Tokyo Summer Olympics is a dream that all athletes in Libya, and the world aspire to.

The Libyan judoka stated that he was training with the Tunisian national, about a month before the start of the games, explaining that his coach Zakaria Al-Aswad, had developed a special plan for his preparations for the Olympics.

69th ranked in the world, he explained that the Libyan Olympic Committee, and the General Judo Federation have supported him throughout his camp in Tunisia.

Al-Nayli expressed his wishes that public and private bodies in Libya would support all athletes who represent the country in international events, not only in the Olympics.

He participated in the African Judo Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon, where he won first place, and also won the bronze medal in the African Championships held in Madagascar. As well as achieving fifth place in the African Championships last month in Senegal.

Al-Nayli is the second Libyan athlete to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after rowing champion, Hussein Qanbour. He is also the only Arab athlete to reach the Olympics over 100 kg, and the second on the African continent.
