On Wednesday, Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni stressed the need to stop armed clashes in Libya immediately, urging the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Government of National Accord (GNA) to enter in political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.
“We cannot turn a blind eye to the escalating conflict in Libya. Innocents are losing their lives in a war that will never end with one winning side, but with many losers.” Sereni said in a statement.
Sereni condemned the shutoff of water to millions of Libyans living in and around the capital Tripoli. The Deputy Foreign Minister urged the warring parties to accept the UN-led initiative of an immediate ceasefire, stressing that the cessation of hostilities was the only way to unite all efforts, to combat the threat posed by COVID-19.
