On Wednesday evening, the Government of National Accord (GNA) declared a 24 hour curfew in Libya to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The curfew is due to begin on April 17 and last for 10 days. Only pedestrians will be allowed out from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m, with a ban on vehicles.

Small convenience stores, bakeries and shipping vehicles will be allowed to operate during this time.

The number of total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Libya has risen to 36, including 9 recoveries and one death, according to the National Center for Disease Control.

Libyan authorities have taken a series of stringent measures against COVID-19, including closing airports, border crossings, mosques, educational institutions, and banning movement between cities.
