On Sunday, the Arab League’s legislative body known as the Arab Parliament called on Turkey to respect Libya’s sovereignty and abide by the UN Security Council resolutions imposing an arms embargo to the North African country.

This came in a virtual meeting held by the speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, in the presence of his deputies and heads of permanent committees to discuss the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic in the Arab world.

During the meeting, the parliament members discussed the latest developments in Libya, calling on the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Government of National Accord (GNA) to announce an effective ceasefire, and abide by a humanitarian truce to strengthen and unite efforts to combat the threat posed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The parliament members also called on Turkey to respect Libyan sovereignty and abide by the United Nations Security Council resolutions imposing an arms embargo on Libya. They also urged the United Nations to take immediate and urgent action to stop the deployment of foreign fighters in the North African country, and to outline a clear mechanism for monitoring and imposing sanctions against countries fueling the conflict in Libya.
