Libya Discusses Return of Chinese Companies

Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij discussed with Chinese Ambassador, Wang Zhimin the return of Chinese companies to Libya.

According to a statement by the ministry, the meeting included the “Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Investment Promotion and Privatization Affairs, Gamal Al-Nuwaisiri, and the Commercial Attaché at the Chinese Embassy.”

The meeting discussed the “problems and obstacles, facing Chinese companies in resuming their work in Libya.” They reviewed the government’s plan to “develop infrastructure and establish ports and airports, that would contribute to encouraging foreign investors to enter the Libyan market.”

Al-Hwaij urged the Chinese Ambassador to encourage Chinese companies to resume their work as soon as possible. He affirmed the keenness of his ministry to “support foreign companies, and provide an appropriate work environment for the implementation of investment projects, with the participation of the local private sector.”

The minister affirmed the establishment of a “joint work program to implement and activate the Silk Road towards the African market. In order to activate transit trade and establish free zones, especially in Libya, to achieve economic diversification.”

Ambassador Zhimin affirmed the desire of Chinese companies to resume their work, and contribute to the implementation of infrastructure and investment projects.
