The spokesperson for the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP), Omar Glick, claimed that the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) forces were making progress in their fight against “Khalifa Haftar’s militias”, referring to the Libyan National Army (LNA).

Speaking to the Turkish ‘Antolia’ news agency, Glick claimed that the current progress made by the GNA, who he described as the “legitimate internationally recognized government”, was in line with the current expectations of Ankara.

Glick confirmed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was closely and personally following developments in Libya. “President Erdogan renewed Ankara’s strong support for legitimacy in Libya, in the face of the coup by Haftar”.

Turkey has invested heavily in the conflict in Libya, supplying the GNA with weapons, fighters, and drones despite a UN arms embargo on the country.
