HoR Welcomes Joint Declaration Condemning Turkey

The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) has welcomed the joint declaration released by Egypt, UAE, Greece, Cyprus, and France condemning Turkey’s actions in Libya.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committee, Youssef Al-Akkouri, confirmed the HoR’s commitment to the resolutions adopted during the Berlin Conference. He underlined the HoR’s hopes of reaching a comprehensive political solution to the crisis, under the auspices of the United Nations.

Al-Akkouri also accused Turkey of threatening the stability of the entire Mediterranean region, in addition to violating UN Security Council resolutions. He claimed this was a result of its interference in Libya’s internal affairs and the continued deployment of foreign fighters and weapons to Tripoli.

He added that Turkey’s intervention in Libya has worsened the conflict between the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The statement issued by the five nations claimed that Turkey’s actions in Libya contradicted international norms regarding state sovereignty and foreign interference in internal affairs.

A ceasefire was announced earlier this month by the LNA in response to pressure from the international community. The UN-recognised GNA rejected the ceasefire, citing lack of trust in the LNA’s intentions.
