In a statement Friday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), said it was following with great concern, the field developments, and military buildup around the city of Tarhuna.

UNSMIL alerted all Libyan parties of their duties per international human rights, and humanitarian law, warning against committing any acts of reprisals against civilians. It also warned of resorting to the imposition of arbitrary sanctions against the scope of the law, such as looting, arson or wilful damage to public and private property. The Mission called for an immediate halt to the military escalation, and giving priority to peaceful solutions.

Tarhouna, which has aligned itself with the Libyan National Army, has been subjected to indiscriminate shelling by forces aligned to the Tripoli based Government of National Accord, and by Turkish drone strikes.
