Egypt’s and EU’s Foreign Ministers Discuss Libyan Conflict

In a phone call on Friday, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell discussed recent developments in Libya with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the two addressed several regional and international issues, including the escalating tensions in Libya.

The statement said that Shoukry stressed “the importance of reaching a comprehensive political settlement and the need to restore security and eliminate terrorism in order to achieve stability for the Libyan people.”

Shoukry also thanked Borrell for the support the EU has provided to Egypt in the battle against Covid-19.

The Foreign Ministers stressed the importance of continued solidarity and cooperation to alleviate the economic and social repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.
