James Cleverly, the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, has welcomed the “Cairo Declaration” announced by Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. The declaration aims at supporting a political process for peace in Libya.

“We welcome efforts by Egypt to encourage eastern Libyan leaders to support a ceasefire, but this must have UN backing,” Cleverly tweeted on Sunday.

“The Libyan National Army & Government of National Accord need to engage urgently in the UN’s 5+5 talks, the path to an inclusive solution,” he added.
