On Friday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the recent developments of the Libyan crisis, stressing the urgent need to end the ongoing conflict in the country.

In a phone conversation, the two sides discussed ways in which the European Union could best support each other to implement the UN arms embargo in the region.

It is noteworthy that the European Union has launched a naval operation named “IRINI”, that aims at monitoring the arms embargo imposed on Libya by the UN Security Council, with the participation of a number of European countries.
