Gavito, set to replace current Charge d’Affaires Jeremy Brent, awaits confirmation from the Senate.

Gavito shared her thoughts on the nomination through her social media, stating, “Nominated by the President as the next US. Ambassador to Libya, I await Senate confirmation.” She expressed deep gratitude for the support from her family, colleagues, and mentors throughout her 25-year diplomatic career.

Jennifer Gavito has a distinguished record in the State Department. Her most recent positions include Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iran, Iraq, and Public Diplomacy from August 2021 to May 2023.

Her prior roles include serving as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the US Embassy in London and as the US Consul General in Munich, Germany. Gavito also served as the Chief of the Political Section at the US Consulate General in Jerusalem, and as a Foreign Policy Advisor at the United States Africa Command.
