The Investigations Office of Libya’s Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Agency announced on Friday the arrest of an individual involved in the import and trafficking of drugs, specifically hashish, in the city of Tobruk.

According to a statement, the suspect was apprehended after a carefully orchestrated sting operation. Authorities found the individual in possession of 350 kilograms of hashish.

The operation marks a significant victory for the Tobruk authorities, in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking. The Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Agency remains vigilant, using sophisticated surveillance and intelligence operations to dismantle networks and stem the flow of illegal narcotics into the region.

As the investigation continues, the agency affirms its commitment to safeguarding the community from the perils of drug abuse and trafficking. The successful operation sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade, highlighting the risks and consequences of their illicit activities.

Earlier this month, the Benghazi Security Directorate announced the seizure of firearms and hand grenades during security stops conducted by police.

According to a statement, security stops and searches conducted by the Sidi Khalifa Police Center led to the discovery of firearms, along with abandoned ammunition and shells in an open area.

The security forces handed over the confiscated weapons and ammunition to the relevant authorities.

Earlier, the Spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Mismari stressed the LNA’s commitment to “maintaining security, thwarting external threats, and preventing the flow of weapons, ensuring the safety of Libya.”

In a televised statement, Al-Mismari highlighted the success in forming anti-terrorism units in 2023, and the strategic training plan implemented for the armed forces.

He emphasised the impact of military developments in neighbouring countries on Libya’s security. Especially in the south, where the Armed Forces effectively countered Chadian militia movements.
