German Party Calls For Complete Ban on Arms Exports to Turkey

The German opposition Party, Die Linke, called for a complete ban on arms exports to Turkey after a document was released stating that a third of Germany’s weapons exports for 2019 went to Ankara.

In a press statement, the leader of the party’s bloc in the Bundestag, Dietmar Bartsch, said “it appears that whoever wages wars receives the most weapons from the federal government”.

Sevim Dağdelen, a German foreign affairs official, described the arms shipments as “an unacceptable act”.

The Turkish government supports the Tripoli based Government of National Accord (GNA) by sending regular weapons shipments and foreign fighters.
