Chairman of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, met with US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, and Jeremy Brant, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy, on Wednesday at the NOC’s headquarters in Tripoli. The meeting addressed pressing issues concerning Libya’s oil and gas sector.

Discussions focused on ensuring oil and gas production stability, vital for Libya’s economic resilience and development, amid challenges posed by fuel smuggling. Strategies to safeguard Libya’s energy resources from illicit activities were explored.

Ambassador Norland reiterated US support for the NOC’s efforts, especially its environmental initiatives like the “Think Tomorrow” project, unveiled at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). This project aims to reduce gas flaring and methane emissions, aligning with Libya’s commitment to responsible resource management and climate protection.

Stabilizing Libya’s oil production holds significance not only for the nation’s economy but also for the global energy market due to its vast oil reserves. Ensuring uninterrupted oil flow is crucial for global energy prices and supply stability.

The meeting highlighted the importance of international collaboration in addressing energy security and environmental sustainability. US support for Libya’s oil sector enhancement and adoption of eco-friendly practices reflects a shared commitment to global stability and sustainable development.

This meeting signifies a milestone in US-Libya partnership, promising enhanced cooperation in ensuring Libya’s oil sector vitality and advancing environmental stewardship. International support, particularly from allies like the US, is crucial for Libya’s post-conflict reconstruction, economic stability, and long-term prosperity.
