Civilian Shot Dead in Libyan Capital Tripoli

On Saturday, Ismail Baraka Abdel Salam Tawerghi, a Libyan national, has died after suffering a severe head injury which was inflicted by an armed group affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA).

Ismail, a father of three, was deliberately shot in the head by gunmen who chased him while he was in the Janzur area.

Armed militias manage several areas in Tripoli, with the support of the GNA.

Furthermore, GNA armed groups practice grave human rights violations against Libyan civilians by committing kidnappings, killings, theft, extortion, and assaults.

Libya has been marred in violence between competing forces, militias, and extremists since the toppling and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The conflict now pits the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) against the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, for control of the country.
