Libya’s southeastern city of Kufra is preparing to host the second edition of its Heritage and Book Fair in an expanded format, with the event scheduled to open on 23 July amid growing interest from cultural and literary communities.
Rashid Rafea Saeed, head of the exhibition’s preparatory committee, said preparations were progressing smoothly and according to the highest organisational standards. The three-day event is an extension of the cultural initiative “Bring a Book, Take a Book”, which aims to promote reading and knowledge-sharing in the region.
Saeed described the exhibition as a landmark event for Kufra, noting that it will be the city’s first heritage and book fair in four decades.
“The exhibition seeks to combine cultural heritage with books and literature in a way that strengthens national identity and promotes culture and knowledge,” he said in comments to the Libyan News Agency.
Organisers say the event will provide a platform for writers, researchers, heritage enthusiasts and cultural institutions to exchange ideas and showcase their work. The exhibition is also expected to encourage greater public engagement with Libya’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
According to the organising committee, the official programme for the exhibition will be announced in the coming days. It is expected to include a series of seminars, cultural discussions and accompanying activities aimed at highlighting Libya’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
Saeed called on cultural institutions, authors, artists and individuals interested in heritage and literature to participate in the event and contribute to its success.
The exhibition comes as part of broader efforts to revive cultural activities in Libya’s southern regions and strengthen the role of books and heritage initiatives in promoting social cohesion and preserving national identity.
