Libya’s national basketball team has travelled to Douala, Cameroon, to compete in the third window of the African qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.
The Libyan delegation left for Cameroon on Tuesday after completing a training camp in Cairo, where the squad finalised preparations for a decisive stage of the qualification campaign.
Libya will compete in Group A alongside South Sudan, Cameroon, and Cape Verde, with matches taking place at the Complexe Multisports de Japoma in Douala.
The national team will open its campaign against South Sudan on Thursday, 2 July, at 4:00 pm Libya time. The match forms part of the fourth round of the African qualifiers and is expected to be a difficult test against one of the continent’s strongest basketball sides.
After a rest day on Friday, Libya will continue its campaign against host nation Cameroon on Saturday, 4 July, before concluding the window against Cape Verde on Sunday, 5 July.
The Libyan team is aiming to deliver strong performances in Douala as it seeks to strengthen its position in the group and keep alive its hopes of progressing in the qualification race for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The third window is considered an important stage in the African qualifiers, as teams compete for places in the next round on the road to Qatar 2027. Libya will need positive results against tough opponents to improve its chances of remaining in contention.
The team’s preparations in Cairo were designed to raise physical readiness, improve tactical discipline, and build momentum ahead of the three-match schedule in Cameroon.
