On Thursday, Libyan Foreign Minister Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij met with Minister of State for Migration Fathi Al-Tibawi to discuss the ongoing preparations for the Afro-European Conference set to be held in Benghazi at the end of May 2024.

The meeting, which was the fifth with the preparatory committee and heads of subcommittees from both ministries, focused on finalizing the arrangements to ensure the conference’s success.

The discussions highlighted the importance of the event in enhancing Libya’s relationships with European and African nations. They reviewed the progress of the preparatory committees, which are tasked with organizing various aspects of the conference to promote dialogue on critical issues such as migration, economic cooperation, and regional stability.

Benghazi’s selection as the host city underscores its growing importance as a hub for diplomatic and international engagements within Libya.

Throughout the meeting, discussions centered on ensuring that all logistical and content-driven elements of the conference were meticulously crafted to provide a conducive environment for meaningful dialogue and resolutions. The event is expected to draw participation from a wide array of African and European nations, reflecting its significance in promoting international cooperation.

The ministers reviewed the progress made by the various committees responsible for different segments of the conference, such as security, hospitality, and technical support, emphasizing the need for a well-coordinated effort to showcase Libya’s capacity to host international events successfully.

This conference is a crucial part of Libya’s broader strategy to reintegrate into the global community and to play a pivotal role in regional stability. It represents a significant step towards enhancing Libya’s diplomatic relations and highlights the nation’s efforts in facilitating critical discussions on migration and economic development between continents.
