On Sunday, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Speaker Ageela Saleh held talks with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Grippa, and the Italian Consul in Benghazi, Francesco Saverio De Luigi at his office in Al-Qubbah City.

During the meeting, the attendees reviewed the latest developments in Libya and identified effective solutions to the ongoing national crisis.

Ageela Saleh, who has been at the helm of the Libyan House of Representatives since 2014, has played a central role in navigating Libya through its turbulent political landscape. His leadership is marked by efforts to bring stability and unity to the country amidst a backdrop of civil unrest and division.

During the meeting, Saleh reiterated his belief that the path to resolving Libya’s issues firmly lies in conducting comprehensive presidential and parliamentary elections. He stressed that a unified government, arising from these elections, is essential to fulfill the Libyan people’s aspirations for peace and prosperity.

The talks also extensively covered the bilateral relations between Libya and Italy, emphasizing the longstanding and multifaceted ties between the two nations. Saleh extended an invitation to Italian companies to participate in Libya’s large-scale reconstruction and development projects. He specifically pointed to the “Amsa’id-Ras Ajdir” road project, which is expected to significantly enhance economic and logistical connections between Libya and Italy.

Additional discussions aimed at improving logistical and people-to-people connections, with proposals to reopen direct flight routes from Benghazi to Italian airports and to reestablish maritime navigation lines. These measures are expected to facilitate easier movement and foster closer ties. Moreover, the officials talked about streamlining visa procedures for Libyans, especially for those seeking medical treatment and educational opportunities in Italy.

This meeting highlights a significant step towards strengthening cooperation and fostering stability in the region, reflecting Ageela Saleh’s ongoing commitment to leveraging international support to achieve national recovery and growth.
