On Thursday, Libya’s acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher El-Baour, took part in the 21st session of the Africa-Northern Europe Foreign Ministers meeting held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This meeting, themed “Multilateralism and Enhancing Trade and Investment Exchanges,” provided a platform for participating countries from Africa and Northern Europe to explore new avenues for collaboration, focusing on boosting economic ties and fostering multilateral engagement.

During this session, Minister El-Baour participated in several bilateral discussions aimed at deepening Libya’s diplomatic relations and discussing substantial issues on the meeting’s agenda. These engagements are part of Libya’s broader strategy to enhance its international presence and forge meaningful alliances that could support its ongoing political and economic recovery efforts.

A significant highlight of El-Baour’s participation was his meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide. This meeting underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening the relationship between Libya and Norway. Both ministers discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation, emphasizing sectors that could lead to comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnerships. They explored potential collaborations in areas such as energy, investment, and cultural exchange, which are pivotal for fostering sustainable development and political stability in Libya.

This diplomatic event is especially crucial for Libya as it navigates a complex period of internal strife and seeks to rebuild its international standing. Engagements like these are instrumental in positioning Libya as a viable partner in the global community, capable of contributing to and benefiting from multilateral trade and investment initiatives.

As Libya continues to stabilize and rebuild, maintaining and expanding its diplomatic relationships through forums such as the Africa-Northern Europe Foreign Ministers meeting not only helps in securing economic and political support but also in ensuring that Libya remains an integral part of the global dialogue on development and cooperation. This ongoing commitment to international diplomacy is a key pillar in Libya’s strategy for achieving long-term peace and prosperity.
