On Monday, Libya’s Minister of Local Governance, Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, held talks with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini to discuss ways of opening new dimensions in their partnership with a focus on agricultural development and fisheries.
In a statement, the Italian Embassy highlighted that the meeting centered on evaluating ongoing joint projects and identifying new areas for cooperation. This strategic dialogue underlines the commitment of both nations to diversify Libya’s economy through sustainable agricultural and maritime initiatives.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Toumi and Ambassador Alberini delved into the potential of Libya’s fertile regions that offer optimal conditions for various agricultural projects. They emphasized the importance of leveraging these areas to boost local agricultural output and foster economic resilience.
The talks also covered initiatives aimed at enhancing Libya’s capabilities in agriculture and fishing, areas that are essential for the country’s food security and economic diversification. Plans to expand these projects include building local capacities and integrating Italian expertise to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Last week, the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Italian government signed three memorandums of understanding (MoU) in the fields of education, health, and sports.
This occurred during the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accompanied by an Italian delegation, to Tripoli. The duration of the visit was not disclosed, according to a statement from the Libyan Government of National Unity.
The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) has announced the details of agreements signed by Libya and Italy in the fields of health, youth and sports, higher education, and scientific research.
According to the “Hakomitna” platform, the health sector agreement includes the establishment of Libyan-Italian hospitals in the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi, and Sabha.
It also outlined the creation of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Libya and the sending of Libyan medical and auxiliary medical staff to Italy for specialised skill development. Additionally, a joint committee will be formed to monitor the implementation of the agreement’s terms.
