The Libyan Attorney General’s office announced that the Stability Support Apparatus in the Nalut branch received information about two Tunisians possessing weapons and explosives in the western border area of Libya.

According to the Attorney General’s statement, one of the suspects surrendered to the authorities and disclosed his companion’s activities and reasons for possessing weapons and explosives in a location far from residential areas. The authorities, supported by the Anti-Terrorism and Organized Crime Unit, located the second suspect who was armed.

When security forces raided the second suspect’s hideout, he resisted by throwing a hand grenade, which resulted in his death. Investigators then examined the scene and the deceased’s body and began investigating the accusations against the arrested suspect.

Notably, the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity (GNU) has made significant progress in the investigation. This came in a recent statement regarding the assassination attempt on Abdelmajid Meligta,

The Ministry’s specialized agencies promptly initiated operations to search, investigate, and gather information about the incident. Their efforts have led to the identification of four suspects involved in the attempt, who subsequently fled to Tunisia.

The Ministry coordinated with Tunisian authorities through the Arab and International Criminal Police Office, resulting in the arrest of the suspects in Tunisia.

An agreement has been reached to extradite the suspects to Libyan authorities. They will be handed over to the Office of the Attorney General for further legal proceedings.

This swift action demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining security and justice in Libya.
