Libyan presidential candidate, Mohamed Al-Mazoughi, stated that while the political landscape in Libya is highly complex, finding a solution is not impossible.

He emphasised that one of the key factors for resolving the crisis is the unity of the Libyan people, noting that there are no significant internal conflicts among the population.

In an interview with “Youm7,” Al-Mazoughi pointed out that Libya does not suffer from ethnic conflicts that could ignite further unrest. He highlighted that even the Amazigh minority lives harmoniously and enjoys full rights.

He stressed that there are no political forces in Libya capable of mobilising mass protests or strikes, adding that the two main issues destabilising the country are uncontrolled weapons and foreign interference supporting certain armed groups and political factions.

He added, “Despite the complexity of the situation, it is not impossible to create a solution, provided that weapons are controlled and a popular base is formed to support the Libyan government.”

When asked about the political deadlock in recent months, Al-Mazoughi explained that there is no genuine national will among the conflicting parties. He also criticised the international community’s lack of seriousness in resolving the crisis.

Regarding the failure of the electoral process, he noted that disagreements over the legal basis for elections, conflicting interests among key political stakeholders, and shortcomings in the UN mediation and the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) have all contributed to the delay.

Al-Mazoughi warned that the Central Bank of Libya crisis could escalate into violent conflict over oil revenues, leading to further division in the country. He urged immediate action to resolve the issue, warning that Libya could face widespread instability, including a potential “hunger revolution” if the crisis continues.

Al-Mazoughi emphasised that while elections are not a panacea for Libya’s problems, they represent an essential first step towards stability. He called for security guarantees and political consensus to ensure a successful electoral process.
