The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Saturday a phone call from his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, during which the two leaders exchanged views on the developments of the Libyan issue.

The two presidents also exchanged views on means of activating negotiations for a political settlement within the framework of the Berlin Conference’s outcomes and the Cairo Declaration initiative, which both seek to put an end to the dangers of terrorism, militias and foreign interventions that pose a threat to regional security and stability.

Sisi and Ramaphosa discussed the most recent developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam’s (GERD) file in light of the recent mini-African summit, said the Egyptian Presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The Egyptian president reaffirmed Cairo’s stance relating to the Renaissance Dam, especially regarding the elaboration of a fully-fledged legal agreement between the parties concerned about rules of filling and operating the dam, in addition to rejecting any unilateral action that would violate Egypt’s Nile water rights.

Simultaneously, Ramaphosa said South Africa is looking forward to continuing intensive coordination with Egypt on the GERD issue and to hammer out a fair and balanced agreement for all parties.
