Libyan Parliament Speaker Aqeela Saleh participated in the 7th Arab Parliament Conference, held at the headquarters of the Arab League. The conference, organized in cooperation with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, focused on supporting the Palestinian people and rejecting displacement and annexation plans.
Accompanying Saleh were Libyan Parliament members and Arab Parliament representatives, including Abdul-Salam Nassia, Hassan Al-Barghouthi, and Abu Salah Shalabi, along with Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi and other parliamentary leaders from across the region.
A Call to Support Palestine and Reject Displacement
During his speech, Saleh emphasized the urgency of standing against attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He condemned the 15-month-long Israeli assault that has led to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians and the destruction of Palestinian infrastructure.
“This is not just Gaza’s struggle—this is our collective Arab cause. The Arab Parliament must be the voice of the people, rejecting all attempts to displace Palestinians from their land and condemning any complicity in such crimes,” Saleh stated.
He further urged Palestinian factions to unite and strengthen their resistance against Israeli aggression, emphasizing that Palestinian unity is essential for Arab solidarity.
Proposal for an Arab-Islamic Fund to Rebuild Gaza
Saleh proposed the creation of an Arab-Islamic Fund for the reconstruction and development of Gaza, calling on Arab governments, Islamic nations, and international organizations to contribute. He stressed that Gaza’s resilience must be met with coordinated efforts to provide aid, support, and development initiatives.
Libya’s Development Progress and Economic Opportunities
In his speech, Saleh also highlighted Libya’s economic recovery, particularly in areas under the governance of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan National Army (LNA). Despite challenges such as Hurricane Daniel, the country has witnessed rapid reconstruction and infrastructure development, with the participation of Arab and foreign companies.
“Libya is experiencing an unprecedented era of development. Every day, new schools, universities, and sports facilities are being inaugurated. We invite international investors to explore opportunities in Libya’s agriculture, industry, tourism, and energy sectors,” he stated.
Saleh urged the Arab world to support Libya’s legitimate legislative institutions, emphasizing the need for a new executive authority to oversee the long-awaited presidential and parliamentary elections. He reiterated that the UN-backed electoral laws are in place, and the international community should push forward with their implementation.
Conclusion: Urgent Action for Palestine
Concluding his speech, Saleh called for tangible resolutions to address the Palestinian crisis, urging Arab leaders to prioritize Gaza’s reconstruction and take decisive measures against Israeli violations. He emphasized the need for a unified Arab stance to defend Palestinian rights and sovereignty.
