The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has reached an agreement with former Senegal national team coach Aliou Cissé to lead the Mediterranean Knights in the upcoming period.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days, confirming Cissé’s appointment as head coach in preparation for Libya’s campaign in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Libya currently sits second in Group D of the qualifiers with seven points, trailing Cameroon by just one point after four rounds.
According to Libya Al-Ahrar TV, Cissé’s contract includes strict terms, notably a monthly salary of $80,000. The agreement also requires him to reside in either Tripoli or Benghazi and ensures full state support for the national team. Additionally, players who refuse to join the squad will face disciplinary action.
The contract extends for two years, with an option for renewal. Cissé is set to arrive in Libya on 5 March to officially sign the deal.
In the meantime, Cissé will provide remote guidance to the coaching staff for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon and Angola before assuming full managerial duties.
As part of the agreement, Cissé and the Libyan Football Federation have decided to establish a special committee to travel across Africa ahead of Libya’s matches to assess conditions and provide logistical support.
