The Libyan organisation Al-Abireen for Migrant Assistance and Humanitarian Services announced that 70 Egyptian migrants, including children, were rescued on Saturday by the Investigation and Arrest Unit of the Tariq Bin Ziyad Brigade, affiliated with the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The migrants were rescued five nautical miles off the coast of Al-Bunbanah. According to the organisation’s statement, all the migrants were in good health.

The organisation also reported on Friday that Libyan authorities intercepted 65 irregular migrants of Egyptian and Sudanese nationality before they could be smuggled to Europe.

The authorities managed to apprehend the migrants at sea, north of Al-Bunbanah, preventing their illegal journey to European shores.

The interception and rescue operations highlight Libya’s ongoing efforts to combat irregular migration and human trafficking along its coastline. The country remains a key transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean.
