The Mayor of Asabaa Municipality, Emad Al-Magtouf, spoke to Fawasel Media Platform, announcing the arrival of a specialised team from Malta’s Ministry of the Interior. The team, consisting of seven fire-fighting experts, is part of an ongoing collaboration between Asabaa Municipality and the National Crisis Management Centre.

Al-Magtouf explained that the Maltese team, alongside local research teams and experts, conducted a field tour of areas suspected to be sources of or heavily affected by the forest fires. Despite all the efforts, he stated that the situation remains unchanged, with the fires continuing without significant improvement.

The Mayor further revealed that the Municipality of Asabaa had previously called for the provision of essential resources for firefighting teams in several official meetings. He noted that some firefighters had experienced suffocation during fieldwork due to the dense smoke.

Al-Magtouf reiterated his appeal to the relevant authorities, stressing the need for protective equipment such as masks and specialised clothing to safeguard firefighters while carrying out their duties. He emphasised that these measures are crucial to ensuring the safety of those working on the front lines of this environmental crisis.
