On Wednesday, the Director of Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Doctor Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar held a telephone conversation with the US Chargé d’Affaires, Joshua Harris. They discussed the response of Libyan health authorities, during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Harris expressed appreciation for the significant and apolitical efforts of the NCDC. He also praised health authorities across the country, as they work in solidarity to detect, prevent, and respond to the spread of the virus.

The US government has pledged $13 million to international and national partners to bolster the COVID-19 response in Libya. This is part of more than $715 million, contributed by the US, to address humanitarian, stabilisation, and development needs in Libya since 2011.

According to the NCDC, 373 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, bringing the total number in the country to 6,302. The Centre added that the total number of recoveries from the virus has reached 740 patients, following 16 new recoveries.
