The Head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Dr. Emad Al-Sayeh, met on Monday with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli.

The two sides discussed ongoing efforts to support Libya’s electoral process, including preparations for the second round of municipal council elections scheduled for 2025. Discussions focused on ensuring that the necessary conditions are in place to guarantee the success of the elections in a way that reflects the aspirations of Libyan voters, according to a statement released by the Commission.

Ambassador Longden praised the Commission’s work during previous phases of the electoral process and expressed appreciation for the level of preparation ahead of the upcoming stages. He reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to providing both technical and advisory support to the HNEC, with the aim of enhancing its readiness and enabling it to conduct elections in a transparent and credible environment.

The meeting forms part of broader international cooperation to support democratic governance in Libya and reaffirms the international community’s ongoing commitment to the country’s democratic path.
