On Sunday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, held a meeting with Jadallah Al-Awkali, member of the Board of Directors of the eastern-based National Oil Corporation (NOC). He also spoke with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), Muhammad Bin Shatwan in Benghazi

During the meeting, the LNA commander discussed issues related to the oil sector, including its ability to provide citizens’ needs for fuel, and feed the country’s power grid.

The NOC reported that financial losses linked to the oil blockade had reached over 8.36 billion dollars, from January up until the 15th of August 2020. The company stressed that the oil blockade had contributed to power outages in Libya, in addition to financial losses. It also said that the oil ports should be reopened to resume oil production and exports.

“By closing the ports in the Gulf of Sirte, the condensate reservoirs at the export ports will be filled within days. Production of gas associated with the condensate, which feeds Zueitina power station, and north of Benghazi will cease,” it added.

Eastern Libya has been hit by a wave of increased power outages over the last few weeks, amid the high summer heat in Libya.
