The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that its technical delegation currently in Libya will provide urgent consular services to Syrian citizens free of charge. These services will be available until the Syrian Embassy officially reopens in Libya.

According to a statement on the ministry’s official Telegram channel, the delegation will offer three key services: passport extensions, issuance of laissez-passer documents for travel to Syria, and the authentication of official documents.

Passport extensions will be valid for one year and require the presence of the applicant or a first-degree relative along with the expired passport. The laissez-passer, intended for one-time travel back to Syria by land or air within 60 days, requires valid identification and two recent passport-size photos.

In terms of document authentication, papers must be certified by the appropriate foreign affairs ministry in either Syria or Libya before submission.

The delegation will operate from a temporary headquarters at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, beginning on Friday, 1 August 2025. On the first day, services will be offered from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. For the remaining days, working hours will be from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The ministry stressed that citizens should interact with the delegation directly and avoid intermediaries. It warned against dealing with any websites or offices claiming to represent the delegation, as no such entities are officially affiliated.

This visit comes as part of Syria’s ongoing efforts to resolve the legal status of its nationals residing in Libya amid growing demand for consular support in the North African country.
