The Libyan Ministry of Health, under the government in the east, has confirmed that gathering points for Sudanese displaced people in the city of Kufra are free of cholera cases. Officials emphasized that the health situation remains stable and secure, with only minor seasonal illnesses recorded in the area.

The announcement comes amid a surge in cholera infections across neighboring Sudan, prompting Libyan authorities to step up field monitoring and health checks at displacement sites in Kufra, a strategic southern border city.

According to the ministry, Deputy Health Minister Dr. Abdel-Salam Aqila inspected the camps last week to review medical conditions and ensure no signs of epidemic threats were present. A specialized medical team also visited the sites, engaging with members of the Sudanese community in Kufra, and confirmed no cases requiring concern.

The ministry highlighted that medical teams continue to provide care, including regular check-ups for children and chronic patients. Preventive campaigns were also carried out earlier this year to raise awareness about personal hygiene and disease prevention, alongside inspections at four major gathering points in Kufra.

Authorities stressed the importance of verifying information from official sources, warning against misinformation circulating on social media about the health status of displaced families. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing monitoring and healthcare support to safeguard stability in Kufra and other border regions.
