The European Union Mission to Libya has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting the country’s stability, economic recovery, and inclusive development, describing itself as Libya’s largest trade, humanitarian, and development partner.
The pledge came during a workshop in Tripoli, organized by the EU Mission with implementing partners, aimed at strengthening coordination under the Team Europe approach. Discussions focused on aligning efforts to help Libyan authorities improve basic services, respond to the needs of citizens, and promote inclusivity, with a particular emphasis on women and youth.
In a statement, the EU Mission highlighted its role as a reliable partner for Libya’s future. “We are proud to be Libya’s biggest trade, humanitarian, and development partner,” the mission said. “The EU remains fully committed to supporting Libya’s stability and prosperity over the long term, working through UN agencies, European development institutions, and both Libyan and international NGOs.”
The meeting brought together a wide range of international and local organizations to evaluate ongoing projects and identify gaps in critical areas such as health, governance, infrastructure, and education. EU officials underlined that coordinated action is vital to ensuring sustainable results, especially in a country still grappling with institutional weakness and political divisions.
For more than a decade, Libya has struggled to overcome the instability triggered by the 2011 conflict. While the country continues to face security and governance challenges, the EU has positioned itself as a central player in supporting reconstruction, social resilience, and economic opportunity.
