In a major boost to Libya’s electricity sector, more than 105 vital projects were completed across the country in under a month. The achievement was announced by the Fund for Development and Reconstruction, in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the General Electricity Company of Libya.

The projects, delivered between 24 August and 18 September, mark the beginning of a new phase in addressing the country’s long-standing energy challenges. Officials confirmed that the initiative followed the formal transfer of the electricity file to the Fund and the ministry at the end of August, paving the way for a coordinated effort to modernise the grid.

Work was carried out under the direct supervision of the Supreme Committee for Resolving the Electricity Crisis, supported by several technical subcommittees. National companies affiliated with the ministry played a central role, including the National Energy Projects Company, the National Electrical Works Company, the National Construction and Consultancy Company, and the National Distribution Projects Company.

The projects varied from easing bottlenecks in the electricity grid and installing new transformers of different capacities to carrying out extensive repair operations and network support initiatives. These efforts have already contributed to noticeable improvements in grid stability, leading to enhanced services for citizens across Libyan cities and regions.

Officials emphasised that this achievement is only the beginning. Projects will continue at an accelerated pace until full stability of the electricity grid is achieved. The ministry hailed the success as a clear sign of the effectiveness of cooperation between the Fund, the ministry, and the General Electricity Company, as well as proof of the competence of national companies and local expertise in meeting challenges and delivering results in record time.
