The General Undersecretary of the Libyan Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdel-Salam Aqila, conducted an inspection visit to the Oncology Center in Benghazi as part of the government’s health sector reform plans, directed by Prime Minister Osama Hammad.
According to the Ministry, the tour covered several treatment departments, where Dr. Aqila reviewed operations, met with medical and technical department heads, and listened to their feedback and requirements aimed at improving performance and patient care.
During the visit, Dr. Aqila also held an extended meeting with the Center’s Director, Dr. Ali Al-Zanati, along with members of the Scientific Committee. Discussions focused on upgrading medical programs, adopting modern treatment standards, and improving service delivery.
The meeting also highlighted the need to establish a national database to track cancer patients, their medication requirements, and service needs. Officials stressed the importance of implementing early detection programs and nationwide screening campaigns to generate accurate health statistics.
Further discussions addressed the unification of treatment protocols across specialized centers, as part of a broader plan to reform Libya’s healthcare system.
Officials emphasized that the new Oncology Hospital building, funded by the Reconstruction and Development Fund, will serve patients from across the country. This makes it essential to prepare well-trained medical and technical staff to meet rising healthcare demands.
These efforts form part of a nationwide strategy to expand healthcare coverage, enhance service quality, and ensure specialized treatment is accessible to patients in all regions of Libya.
