Authorities in eastern Libya have detained 193 irregular migrants during a series of intensified security operations in the Green Mountain region, including the city of Al-Bayda. The operations were carried out by the Desert Patrol Administration as part of ongoing efforts to curb irregular migration and strengthen border security.

The security campaigns targeted areas within the patrols’ jurisdiction, focusing on locations where migrants were moving or gathering. Officials confirmed that the migrants were from different nationalities and were attempting to cross through Libya illegally.

The Interior Security Department stressed that these actions fall under a wider plan to stabilise the region, reduce unauthorised migration flows, and maintain public order. The Desert Patrol Administration has become a key pillar in Libya’s strategy to combat irregular migration, especially across its vast and porous desert borders.

The latest operations also reflect Libya’s growing challenge as a major transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe through the Mediterranean. The authorities said they remain committed to reinforcing border controls and dismantling networks that exploit migrants.

Officials added that the migrants will be processed according to Libyan regulations, with coordination between the relevant security and judicial bodies. They underlined that maintaining strict control over unauthorised migration is essential to safeguarding national security and easing pressure on local communities.

The operation highlights the role of Libya’s desert patrols in preventing irregular movements, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring stability in remote areas often exploited by smuggling and trafficking groups.
