Egypt and Libya have agreed to expand cooperation in the sports and youth sectors following talks between Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Jawhar Nabil and Libya’s Minister of Sports, Fouad Al-Bargathi.
The meeting focused on enhancing joint programmes, activities and development projects as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise in sports management and youth development.
During the talks, Nabil welcomed the Libyan minister and underscored the strong historical ties between the two neighbouring countries. He said the coming period would witness greater cooperation across both the sports and youth sectors, reflecting the shared commitment of Cairo and Tripoli to deepen relations.
The two ministers also agreed on plans for Egypt to host training camps for Libyan national teams, sports clubs and representative squads across a range of sporting disciplines. Egyptian officials highlighted the country’s advanced sports infrastructure, modern facilities and specialised sports and youth cities as key assets capable of supporting Libyan athletes and teams.
Nabil noted that Egypt’s extensive network of sports venues and training centres provides an ideal environment for preparing teams for regional and international competitions.
For his part, Al-Bargathi praised Egypt’s experience in developing and managing sports facilities, describing it as a model that Libya is keen to study and benefit from through closer bilateral cooperation.
The Libyan minister said Egypt possesses valuable expertise in the construction, operation and maintenance of sports infrastructure, adding that Libya is interested in transferring elements of the Egyptian experience to support the development of its own sports sector.
He also pointed to the significant progress achieved by Egypt in recent years in upgrading sports facilities and expanding services for young people and athletes.
The discussions reflect ongoing efforts by both countries to broaden cooperation in areas beyond politics and economics, with sports and youth development emerging as important fields for regional partnership and knowledge exchange.
Both sides expressed optimism that the new initiatives would contribute to strengthening relations and creating additional opportunities for athletes and young people in Egypt and Libya.
