Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, met on Thursday with the newly appointed Greek Consul to Libya, Athanasios Anastopoulos, for a wide-ranging discussion on the political situation in Libya and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting took place at Saleh’s office in the city of Al-Qubbah. Discussions focused on the latest political developments and the importance of advancing the political process to achieve a lasting solution to Libya’s ongoing crisis.
Saleh stressed the need to unify Libya’s sovereign institutions and emphasized that national stability must come through a transparent, inclusive, and democratic path. He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities in support of a peaceful transition, constitutional progress, and national reconciliation.
The Greek Consul reaffirmed Greece’s full support for the role of the Libyan parliament in guiding the political process. He expressed his government’s desire to see Libya emerge as a stable and unified country and confirmed Athens’ readiness to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Both parties discussed opportunities to deepen Libyan-Greek relations in fields such as trade, infrastructure, education, and energy. The meeting also addressed regional matters, including the importance of maritime stability and coordination in the eastern Mediterranean.
Saleh welcomed the consul’s visit and noted the importance of ongoing communication between Libya and its international partners. Both sides agreed on the value of regular diplomatic coordination to support stability, development, and long-term cooperation.
