The Benghazi branch of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Authority has organized a collective deportation operation involving 150 irregular migrants of various nationalities, including Chad, Mali, Algeria, Niger, Benin, and Cameroon.
The operation, conducted early Monday, was carried out under the directives of Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khweifi, Head of the Anti-Illegal Migration Authority, as part of efforts to expedite repatriation procedures in coordination with the relevant branches across the country.
According to the Authority’s Security Media Office, the group included several individuals suffering from infectious diseases, as well as others under security restrictions. All were transferred to the Sabha Shelter Centre in southern Libya to complete the necessary procedures for their return to their countries of origin.
The Authority emphasized that this operation is part of its broader plan to combat illegal migration and enforce national regulations governing entry and residence in Libya. The initiative also aims to support ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability within the country.
Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations.

The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition.
Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges.
