Italy’s Tarros shipping company has announced the renewal and expansion of its maritime freight service connecting La Spezia with Libya’s key ports in Tripoli and Misrata, in a move aimed at boosting trade and logistics efficiency between the two Mediterranean nations.
The upgraded route, branded “Italy–Libya Express,” will now operate every 10 days, offering faster transit times and improved reliability. The service will also include additional sailings from southern Italian ports, with a stop in Malta to manage local cargo movements.
According to Tarros, this renewed service forms part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its direct presence in Libya, where it operates branches in both Tripoli and Misrata. These offices play a central role in providing commercial and operational support to Italian companies while ensuring compliance with Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade regulations.
Valentina De Bernardi, the company’s Commercial Director, said the relaunch of the Italy–Libya route reflects Tarros’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its clients. “The service has significant economic and commercial implications,” she noted, emphasising that the initiative supports both nations’ ambitions to revitalise maritime transport and expand bilateral trade opportunities.
The renewed maritime link is expected to stimulate greater cargo flow between Italian and Libyan markets, especially in industrial goods, construction materials, and consumer products. It also highlights Tarros’s continued investment in Libya, despite regional challenges, as part of its mission to maintain stable and sustainable shipping routes across the Mediterranean.
Industry observers view the move as a positive indicator of renewed confidence in Libya’s port infrastructure and economic recovery efforts.
