Libyan MP: UN Mission Deepening Crisis in Libya

Libyan lawmaker Ali Al-Sol has sharply criticised the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), accusing it of exploiting the Libyan crisis through arrangements made with external partners. Speaking to Libya Al-Hadath TV, Al-Sol said Libya is a sovereign state and “does not need foreign funding” to facilitate dialogue between Libyans.

He argued that the UN mission has pursued what he described as political bargaining with foreign capitals under the pretext of supporting the political process. According to Al-Sol, this approach has undermined the sovereignty of the state and distorted the path toward a genuine Libyan-led solution.

Al-Sol said the UN-backed roadmap has failed, noting that the mission expanded the dialogue table to include figures who “do not represent the Libyan people,” which he believes deepened divisions and made the political landscape more complicated.

He stressed that decisions about Libya’s future must come from “its people, their elected representatives, and the national leaders active on the ground,” rather than from individuals selected by UNSMIL or imposed through externally funded processes.

The MP reiterated that Libyans are capable of determining their political path independently and called for respecting national institutions, popular will, and the country’s sovereign decision-making without external pressure.
